Revenge Ep14: “Perception”

Revenge ABC

Revenge ABC

It’s official. I’ve finally caught up with these recaps. Not too soon either since the Engagement Party episode is tonight which we have all been waiting for.

Everyone had received their tickets for the “Fire & Ice Ball” as Victoria has named the party. Engagement photos are taken, dinner with Grandpa Grayson occurs and the secret of Charlotte is announced.  Even in a flashback, you see that Emily has known Daniel for a long time, back in his college days.

While Amanda Clarke has left the “Revenge” party, Jack is nursing his broken heart with the Treadwell tape found under his bed. He asks Nolan to find something to play it on. Jack does not let it out of his hands. He calls Amanda and tells her if she wants it back, she has to meet him. Emily still the owner of the phone, hears this message and decides for Amanda to come back into the game. Amanda between tears at a Riverhead hotel explains to him, “The little girl you loved isn’t me.” Jack still does not hand over the tape.

Nolan tells Emily that he has a way to demagnetize the tape to get rid of the footage, but he isn’t sure if he is willing to do this. In the end, he lets Jack see the small conversation between Amanda and Treadwell. She explains how her Dad loved the lady with the black hair. The lady would definitely help. Jack obviously knows this is not true. Amanda learns that he has watched it and passes the information on to Emily. This could be the reason that Nolan and Emily have an disagreement at the engagement party.

Before Jack comes into the picture, Victoria tries to hold a civil dinner with her father-in-law who absolutely adores her. Declan is also invited to dinner because Victoria is trying to be the best for Charlotte after all that Conrad has done to his daughter. Victoria for once tells Conrad, this is between you and me. You need to apologize to your daughter, it isn’t her fault.

Ashley sees Conrad before the dinner for a list of invitees for the engagement party, but  Conrad wants to know what the part Ashley wants to play in this game. He warns her that she is playing for the wrong side.

Conrad after all,  decides to try to make it up to Charlotte. Conrad gives Charlotte a big speech about being strong whatever comes her way. At first in the episode, we are led to believe that Emily will be the one who will spoil her half-sister’s life. She has a burned DVD to place in Charlotte’s vantage point, but instead she retracts this idea. What a nice sisterly deed.

However, a mess is made surely when Jack comes stomping through the house. Jack asks to Victoria, “What did you do to make her run away? You did nothing. You could’ve saved her.”

No one has any idea of what’s going on. Daniel thinks Jack is lying. Eventually Victoria must tell the truth as does Conrad.  Daniel can’t believe his mother lied about her relationship. Grandpa Grayson is not pleased. He wishes that his son could’ve just kept it in the business. Grandpa wants Conrad to step down as CEO and Daniel to step up. Charlotte is horrified, runs away to the Stowaway and drinks away her hurt in the form of tequila. She tells Declan, “I have no father. He is dead.”

The most important part of this episode comes when Emily walks into her house. A light is on where her infinity box is usually hidden, but it is gone. In its place is a RSVP card for “Fire and Ice” party and this mysterious person will be attending.  I’m desperate to know who found her out! Aren’t you?

Revenge Ep13: “Commitment”

A storm is coming and can we say in a big way?

After the big bombshell from last episode, Emily decides to show Nolan the tape about Charlotte. Emily decides these tapes have to destroy two people… Victoria Grayson and Amanda Clarke. Emily starts to weave a web that starts with Amanda. She plants the idea that Victoria thinks Amanda torched Treadwell’s house and that she needs to leave town. First however, Amanda is invited for tea at the Graysons.

Conrad and Daniel are the only ones left out of the loop, for now. Conrad has decided to pay prep school tuition for Declan because Declan has made his daughter’s life easier. At this same discussion, he receives a flash drive with the information that Charlotte is not his daughter.

He first conducts a paternity test. Charlotte’s DNA is easy, but to get Amanda’s, that must come from Victoria’s at tea. Victoria believes that Amanda isn’t who she says she is. A DNA test proves that this is not true. She is Amanda Clarke, Charlotte is her half-sister and Conrad is obviously not the father.  Now how Conrad treats his daughter is disgusting in the next two episodes. His treatment of his wife also goes downhill, but that’s Victoria’s own fault. This is not the first time that Conrad remarks after the divorce that Victoria will return to be “the desperate, penniless bitch that you were when I first met you.”

Charlotte is told to move back with her mother, but she can’t understand why her father is doing this. I’m going to be honest. You know I hated the whole teen romance between Charlotte and Declan, but I really feel bad for Charlotte in this episode. She’s a Daddy’s girl and can’t understand why he is pushing her farther away from him.

With all this baby daddy drama, can you believe there is something more important going on? Daniel proposes to Emily. He loves her whether or not the trust was involved. He proposes to her on the Yacht where they met, but it suddenly begins to rain. It doesn’t ruin their night as black umbrellas are swiftly put in place to still let the magic happen.

Jack and Nolan find out this news as Ashely goes to the Stowaway. No one here is pleased with the news. Besides these three, Victoria and Conrad are also not thrilled. Conrad tells his son to really ask his mother what the secret she has been hiding from her family. The only one who is thrilled about the engagement is Charlotte. Charlotte says, “You don’t know how badly I wanted a sister!” Ironic, no? Charlotte still does not know about her baby daddy.

In this process of this happy news, Jack encounters trouble when he goes back upstairs. An accomplice of Victoria’s was searching for the tapes from Treadwell. They were in Amanda’s bag thanks to Emily. Jack is beaten in the process. When Nolan and Amanda find Jack, Nolan questions how far Emily will go?

Emily tells Amanda to get out or she and Jack will be hurt further. She tells Amanda the truth about the Graysons. Emily gives her a new phone and tells her to run without saying goodbye to Jack. Emily keeps Amanda’s phone. The only thing that Emily doesn’t get is the last remaining Treadwell tape still hidden under Jack’s bed.

Daniel also talks with his mama about the secret. She tells Daniel about Charlotte and David Clarke, but she twists the tale. She tells Daniel that David Clarke forced himself upon her. Yeah, okay. Too bad Daniel believes her.

Now the question I know you’ve been dying to be answered as well as I was was, who faked the paternity test? Apparently Mr. Ryan Huntley. He had been working for Emily the whole time. Back in the day, he was willing to do an appeal for her father. However, David did not want it because child Amanda would’ve had to be brought in to the trial.  Huntley like Satoshi warns Emily to reassess what she’s doing.

At first she believes them. Emily tells Nolan that she is going to press pause on all of this and she’s going to give the ring back. That’s far from the truth. Especially when she finds out the tale that Victoria has weaved.

Revenge Ep11: “Duress”

Revenge ABC

Revenge ABC

It’s the blowout episode you’ve been waiting for. Okay, well, it isn’t the engagement party episode, but this one was pretty cool. Cue the Tyler chronicles as Nolan would say!

Tyler is still creating havoc in the Hamptons as Victoria prepares for Daniel’s birthday party. She wants extravagant, he does not and neither does Emily. Clambake it is! Jack and Amanda are invited to help set up the party and then join in afterward.

Before the festivities are underway, Emily and Nolan decide to patch things up after their kerfuffle. He tells Emily, “Tyler stole my whale cam.” I love them calling it that.

Nolan decides to track Tyler’s phone by GPS which will be Nolan’s downfall in this episode. Emily goes into Daniel’s house where Tyler is staying to find the whale cam. She also finds tons of empty prescription bottles. They look up and found out his drugs were anti-pyschotics. You never want to run out of those. As Nolan says, cold turkey equals hot mess.

Emily and Nolan decide to call Tyler’s brother, Alex Barroll to come pick him up. ( I thought their last name was spelt differently… oh well. Now, I know)

Emily prepares for Daniel’s birthday. As she makes him a scrapbook of all his favorite poems, Nolan is attacked by Tyler. The gps says Tyler was on a plane. Too bad, Tyler just shipped his phone ahead of time. Tyler wants to know where those videos are along with the web cam. He stabs Nolan and ties him up in a chair after he sees the camera at Emily’s house. Add another plate setting to the clam bake.

It’s a nice evening with the Grayson not really speaking to each other due to the divorce proceedings, but they try to make it the best for Daniel. Victoria gives Daniel a scrapbook, how inventive of her? Emily thinks no, not really. Amanda is also introduced at the party and Conrad and Victoria have now both become very suspicious.

When Emily goes to get the cake, she runs into Tyler. Tyler comes out to the rest of the party and plays a game of Truth or Die. He wants to know what really happened to David Clarke? He points a gun at Emily’s head as everyone gets a little frightened, even Emily. Nolan meanwhile is rocking back in forth in his tied up chair. Alex comes and helps Nolan.

Emily acts defenseless even though we know she has awesome crazy fighting skills. Instead Jack and Daniel will take down Tyler right around the time Nolan and Alex show up  and Alex tries to persuade his brother to come home.

When the police come, they find Frank’s wallet in Tyler’s coat. He is the new suspect.I wonder  how it got there. Just look to the lovely Emily Thorne of course.

Sidenotes:

  • Nolan to Emily: You seemed like a mere mortal tonight. Emily: the gun was empty. Nolan: You surprise me.
  • In a flashback we see Victoria with David. He wants to introduce Victoria to Amanda, Victoria could care less.
  • During Divorce proceedings: Victoria wants custody of Charlotte. She claims she was pregnant when she signed the prenup so they are filing she was under duress. Victoria later tells Ryan that she was never pregnant, she miscarried.
  • What happened to Big Ed? Nolan’s bodyguard? Stupid rich boy move.

Revenge Ep10: “Loyalty”

Revenge ABC

Revenge ABC

I’m going to call this episode, a filler episode or in a nicer way, adding to the backstory.

Nolan and Emily find out that Tyler isn’t who appears to be. Emily finds out a little bit more and sees that Nolan has been paying a little extra for some sex business from Tyler. She is not pleased.

Eventually Conrad will come to get the footage. He wishes to fire him, but Tyler steps in. Tyler believes this is a bad idea since he knows how the Graysons really ended Flight 197.

Besides the hot mess that is Tyler who ran out of his medication, you have the Grayson’s divorce starting. No surprise there, right? The children start to take sides. Charlotte obviously chooses her daddy’s side. Daniel is stuck into the middle until he learns that Tyler was not fired. Daniel is now on Team Mommy and is willing to get her information that she needs to get what she wants.

A new character is introduced by the name of Ryan Huntley. This person is very important. Ryan is Victoria’s attorney for the divorce proceedings. He is also the lawyer who turned down the appeal of David Clarke. Remember this person because Emily certainly does.

On the other side of love in Suffolk county, Jack is falling deeply in love with Amanda. Too bad, Amanda has a foggy childhood. Also, Sammy hates her and Jack can’t figure out why. Come on Jack! Why does Sammy adore Emily? I don’t think it is because she smells like beef jerky. Emily acts pretty nice to Amanda which you know can’t be good in the end.

Daniel also meets Amanda and is shocked to see her. Emily acts dumb and pretends she has no idea who David Clarke is. Amanda is being set up soon to meet with the Graysons, can’t you feel it?

Declan and Charlotte are also trying to buy an apartment with the bribe money that Victoria gave Declan. Surprisingly both families find the idea of two teenagers having an apartment is very stupid.

Disclaimer: It really bothers me that I’m a japanese minor and Emily speaks better Japanese than I do. I’m confused she just learned it phonetically. Anyway, pretty much Satoshi is like you’re screwed if you fall in love with your enemy. You forget what you are really after. Disclaimer: This is not me translating the japanese, just the subtitles.

Satoshi is also sick of his position in this show. He has had it up to here. He gives Daniel business, but warns Emily to leave her emotions at the door. He warns as he leaves, “With your emotions you are destined to fail..”

With Satoshi leaving, Nolan also parts ways for a little bit since Emily ruined his plans with Tyler. Nolan tells her, “I’m glad your father isn’t here to see what you’ve become.”

Onto the fantastic clambake episode!

Side note: I hate the new graphic… a lot.

Revenge Ep9: “Suspicion”

Revenge ABC

Revenge ABC

Nolan pretty much sums up this whole episode, “Even I’m getting confused.”

Characters keep interchanging their names, but not to worry Nolan and fellow viewers, the plot line to this episode is pretty simple.

There is a big investor dinner for Grayson Global and Tyler and Daniel are up against each other. As Tyler puts it, it is ambition v. nepotism. Tyler plans on banking Nolan Ross after Nolan learns of Tyler’s con. Tyler had stolen one of his credit cards. Tyler promises Nolan, “I’ll pay you back when you invest.” Nolan finds this ridiculous since then Tyler would paying him back with his own money.

Emily begs to differ. She tells Nolan to invest. Why? They learn that Tyler has Lydia’s speech. Emily wants to lure Tyler with money and then take it away from him when she succeeds in getting back the speech. Best part is when Tyler and Nolan agree on this deal with a kiss, Ashley catches them in the act.

Daniel tries to makes a connection with Satoshi Takeada who Emily seems to know. Such a random encounter. When I first saw this episode, all I could thing was, what?!? I thought I was watching a very bad take on “The Karate Kid”. Takeada doesn’t give in even though Emily speaks Japanese. He clearly came out of loyalty for Emily. He has no interest in Daniel’s offer, but Daniel doesn’t know this.

The important turn in this episode is that Amanda or “Kara” for part of this episode, admits to Jack that she is Amanda Clarke. Jack is delighted and kisses her on his boat. Sammy does not approve. Neither does Emily when she finds out.

Side notes:

  • When Tyler offers to pay back his loan with a romp in the bed, Nolan responds, “No transaction. Cash only.” Hehe, too funny!
  • Nolan is just full of good quotes in these episodes. “When she wants someone to go, they usually go in a spectular fashion.” Nolan says this to Amanda when she decides to stay.
  • Victoria Grayson tries to buy Declan out of his relationship with Charlotte.
  • Victoria also speaks to Emily. Emily says, “Last thing I want is for Daniel to get hurt.” I find this very ironic since Daniel gets hurt at the start of the season.
  • Lydia moves out of the house.
  • The police are circling the Grayson’s house after finding the GPS signal from Frank’s phone within in their property.

Revenge Ep7: “Charade”

Revenge ABC

Revenge ABC

Conrad and Victoria Grayson are celebrating their 25th anniversary, can you believe it? I don’t think they can either. A New York Times reporter comes to interview them and they try to act very much in love like the ice king and queen would. The reporter also interviews Daniel. When Daniel doesn’t let slip who he is dating, Tyler is very helpful in this part.

Franks Story Angle:

Back at Emily’s house, Frank is waiting for her. He finds her gun and wants her to talk. Emily says she will pay him, but that isn’t what he wants. As he leaves, Emily calls the warden and explains her problem. Frank reemerges at the hospital where Victoria is. He promises to redeem himself to her.

Frank goes of to Allenwood, a juvenile maximum correctional center  where he found out Emily went.  That was confidential, but “he broke the sealed records”. The warden tells him he needs a warrant for what else he may want. Franks does not follow the rules and comes back later at night. He does not play nice and picks the locks. He realizes that Emily Thorne is not who she appears to be. The file for Emily Thorne holds the picture of a different girl.

He traces this girl to a strip club where the girl is posing as Amanda Clarke. He tells her where Emily is. She tells him they can go together. Frank calls Victoria and warns that Emily who is not who she appears to be. Too bad, Amanda whacks Frank on the back of the head. She drives his car back to the island to meet Emily. Oh won’t Emily be so surprised?

Relationship Angle:

Emily will be surprised, but first she must see through the Grayson’s 25th anniversary intimate dinner which turns more into a dinner where Declan Porter who Charlotte invited, can’t control himself. He is bitter that Emily can’t see what she means to Jack. She had stopped by earlier in the day and gave him a  mariner’s compass for fixing her porch swing. That’s not just a friend’s gift.

The only person missing from this little rendezvous is Tyler. Tyler is busy talking things over with Nolan. Nolan learns that Tyler has had a restraining order against a Leslie Montgomery who turns out to be a dude.  The talking eventually leads to the bedroom where Nolan enjoys himself. Emily will not be pleased when she finds out.

At the end, Daniel and Emily are sitting on the porch swing. Daniel says “I Love you” to Emily as she strokes the swing that is a memory of her past.

Side notes:

  • Nolan has a bodyguard now whose name is Big Ed
  • Lydia wakes up from her coma, has amnesia.
  • Conrad moves out
  • Daniel and Emily are on the other side of the fold of the paper. Jack and Emily are not amused.

Revenge Ep6: “Intrigue”

Revenge ABC

Revenge ABC

It’s really fun going back to watch episodes a second time around because you pick up on new things including costume, music or just another layer to a character like Tyler.

“Intrigue” centers around July 4th weekend and the big annual party that the Graysons throw. There are two main stories going on in this episode, you have the relationship angle, but you also have the remnants of what happened to Lydia.

4th of July Party with Relationship Angle:

Ashely with her handy dandy iPad is behind the helm to control the undertakings of the festivities. The only person that won’t be attending would be Daniel.

Daniel is starting his new job at the Stowaway as a second bartender with a double shift. Jack isn’t happy about rich boy working, especially since rich boy is definitely dating Emily now, hence the double shift. Victoria is not happy either. Tyler let’s it slip that maybe Emily made him get the job. Gotta love this evil kid’s effort to undo this relationship.

Nolan is also trying to undo the relationship between Daniel and Emily, but I find it, this time, endearing. Nolan knows the truth and isn’t being a jerk without a reason. Tyler is creepy and Nolan is endearing. Nolan keeps coming over to egg Jack on that Emily might have feelings. Nolan is trying to make Emily happy and stop playing the game. He is the older brother that she never had.

Nolan drags Jack and Declan to the party. Declan goes after Charlotte still playing the whole Romeo & Juliet angle of coming from different worlds. (Declan stole from a lobster net to make a profit. Too bad the net belonged to two burly men)

Jack talks with Emily down at a dock and gives a real deep metaphor about a sailboat which I can’t really care to write down. Let’s face it, Jack loves boat analogies with love.  Jack tells Emily, “Tell me the truth and then I’m done with this and I won’t ever bother you again.” Emily tells him, he is talking to the wrong girl.  I, like Nolan, ask myself, Emily is all this really worth it? Emily is just pushing him farther and farther away. Come one Emily, he even came over to fix your front porch swing in this episode. Now that is some love right there.

4th of July Party with Plotting Angle:

Nolan tells Emily the truth about Lydia. She’s not so paranoid, but he is. By the end of the episode, Nolan has every right to.  Emily and Nolan decide to send the video to the Grayson and let them bury their employee.

Conrad is the first to view it and decides to fire Frank. Gives him a nice big severance/blackmail check to keep him quiet. However, Frank will do the opposite, especially after he learns Conrad has the video. He was not aware that Lydia’s apartment had surveillance.

Frank goes over to Lydia’s apartment and watches security footage and learns that Nolan entered the apartment. This is where I freaked out because Nolan is my buddy and Frank is pretty scary. Frank corners Nolan at the party and is about to blow off his kneecaps, but Tyler and Emily interrupt the situation.

Frank disappears, only to see that Nolan and Emily go off to the side to discuss what happened. He only reappears to warn Victoria of the danger late at night. Victoria will not listen to him, she has seen the video. Conrad finds him and throws him out of the house. Frank may know the truth, but no one will listen.

The only other problem really going on in this episode was Tyler, being Tyler. He goes to the bar and has a drink with Daniel. While Daniel is busy, Tyler slips something in his drink. Tyler purposely smashes his head on a beam as he leaves the Stowaway. He explains that Daniel was drinking and he did this and it’s all Emily’s fault.

Emily and Tyler’s twisted relationship, goes to yet another level when they have a great conversation during the dinner date.  It really made more sense when I saw this episode a second time. There’s this underlying tone that Emily speaks with that gives this conversation, a second meaning. Emily can tell that Tyler isn’t who he talks himself out to be.

Tyler: I’m just trying to tell a story.

Emily: I believe that.

Tyler: Why don’t you tell your girlfriend to take a step back? Who does she think she is talking to?

Emily: That’s a very good question.

Side notes:

  • Great music again especially from Peter Bradley Adams
  • Loved Emily’s dress at the July 4th party. Just found out it is designed by Jason Wu. Lovely
  • Does anyone really believe Ashley and Emily are really friends? I can never quite figure this relationship out.
